Funny that the word that seems most useful to me when describing Amy Key’s beautiful new book, is relatable, because Arrangements in Blue is a study of Amy’s life as a single woman (I am married) and being without a child (I have a daughter), living alone (I don’t) and the grief of losing a beloved friend (touch wood, I have not), set to the track list of Joni Mitchell’s classic 1971 studio album, Blue.
I suppose my conclusion as to why this is a book I think you should buy is as useful to you here as it will be at the end, and it is this; in the way that Blue is an album you can love before you know romantic love, loss and longing, Arrangements in Blue is a book you can love before you know the absence of romantic love, the ache of loss, the awkwardness of longing.
