One of the things that’s great about having a kid is you can stencil your own childhood onto them and then be smug when they end up with Great Taste, i.e. liking the same things you like. When I was little I liked office stationery, Michael Jackson and dangling necklaces on my forehead to make bejewelled headdresses. I have my own daughter now and she gets me. Unsurprisingly, my little Bookwormlet likes a lot of things I like; The Muppets, reading books instead of going to sleep, the American Graffiti soundtrack, stickers, going halves on two different cakes, and Studio Ghibli films. She doesn’t love everything that I like (fresh air, again!?) and I certainly don’t love everything that she likes (wouldn’t you prefer the one without the unicorn on it?) but she is her own bear. Lucky for me, one of the things she really loves is one of my own childhood favourites;
