Have you considered buying a second -- reserve -- bun, so you have something to look forward to following bun consumption? I'm the sort of person who keeps an unscratched lottery scratchcard in my wallet, so that at I may be far richer than I think I am at any time.
The great thing about it is you only ever need to go it once. If you ever really want to scratch it, you can just buy a replacement first, which is, of course, the *real* winning card.
This is an excellent tip! (Or ‘life hack’ as I understand they are called these days) I’ve been wanting to get one this weekend after all the wonderful Olympians thanking the national lottery 😊
I need to tell you that Gary Clement and I swim in the same pool, and I met him once, and I was VERY EXCITED because I know him best from a picture book he illustrated called SWIMMING SWIMMING, and I was out of my mind because I met the author of SWIMMING SWIMMING IN AN ACTUAL POOL, but I think I made him slightly uncomfortable with my enthusiasm.
Thank you so much for writing these Katie, they are wonderful! I’m from the UK but I love that you’re able to direct US readers to another mother-daughter bookshop, very generous ♥️ Also, and the last thing I promise, Daphne is beautiful!
V disappointed that we didn’t get to see the bum biscuits. Also Gregg was featured in Jess Pans essay this week “sorry I’m late I have shingles” who also is a writer who works at a bookshop in the UK where a guy named Gregg works. 🤷🏻♀️ I wonder?
Oh cinnamon buns… sometimes I try and mix it up with my bakery treat but I always just prefer the cinnamon (or better yet, cardamom bun). I’m off to campus today for the first time in ages, and the good cafe is open on Fridays, so I’m going to stop in and hope they have buns. Kiddo got a book token for his birthday. He and his dad went to get the next Percy Jackson, and I convinced his dad to spend real money rather than the voucher, since we have a Toppings Edinburgh and nice cake shop routine whenever we’ve got a voucher.
I highly recommend for Dave Eggers: “What is the What: The Autobiography of Valentino Achak Deng” (2006) by Dave Eggers. This book is a powerful, swirling drama which Eggers pens for the life of one of “The Lost Boys” of Kenya (Valentino) —during turmoil and civil wars there. Masterfully relates exceptionally personal perspectives in the voice and accounts of Valentino himself. Account was written up by gifted writer Eggars who captured perfectly the nuances of these tragic/ true stories needing to be told and must reading for getting first hand account of African pain, poverty and suffering understanding.

Ah-ha! Schroedinger's scratchy! I love those!! The amount of spending you can do is the best part 😁

This is a good plan!!

Sorry things have been so grim, and hope that's the end of your bad luck for a good many months. Daphne is absolutely GORGEOUS, by the way!.
🥰 I think so too!
I had to double-check with my husband that it was in fact Thursday when I saw the substack notification 😂
And today is NOT Saturday even though I was just about to post weekend Reads... 🙃
Were the bum biscuits really bum? (Bad in USA...)
They are actually delicious!!
I want pics of the bums (I mean hearts) 😂. Lovely as ever.
Added in chat ! 🍑
Had to explain to my husband why I kept laughing out loud! Hope some one makes you laugh like that! Thank you

All this talk of buns put my blood sugar level right up. Great read, very chortlesome. Thanks!

Yeah, the bum cookies? Let's see 'em!
I can't add a photo to comments so I've added it to the chat function. 👌
Intrigued to know what you make of the Eggers book! Are they doing the wood cover for it here?
I don't think so because this pb appears to be a finished copy. 🤔
