Business Mum here. I would just like to say, in my defence, that my apparent frequent cruising (well ok it is quite frequent), is actually me accompanying my little 85 year old Mum on a holiday that really suits her e.g. no flying and a very gentle holiday style. Yes I get to enjoy the trip too but the important bit is to make sure we share happy times together. So off to Iceland while Katie is in charge at the Bookshop. Hope you liked the mini books.
My little 90 year old mum is now too fragile to travel, so I totally get it! Enjoy! What a delicious family range you have - tiny grade school to great grandmother! Love it
No, I don’t have my own set ,too much clutter for me to collect anything else. The book club girls, I think bought little acetate boxes or Christmas tree globes to put them in. Any members on here would care to share/photograph?
Business Mum, I love the mini books and want to make some of my own books to give to customers at Christmas craft fairs. What weight paper or card do you use to print the covers, please and thank you?
My first copy of A Wizard was a Puffin edition, so definitely branded for kids. My 66th birthday present was the hardback of the series, Tales of Earthsea.
And then there’s my near-60-year fascination with the life and stories of Arthur Ransome. (OK, I didn’t discover the story of his life till later).
I have had to give up crunchies, along with everything else that ever tasted good, in order to bring a halt to the ever-increasing number of Xs that precede the L in my clothes size. So, I would welcome any kind of Friday feeling crunchie right now. And Ray Mears is alive and well. I saw him give a talk recently at the Fringe by the Sea festival in East Lothian. It was somewhat melancholy as he seems to have suffered quite a lot of loss in his life. I was also slightly disappointed that he didn't show us how to make an omelette out of ants' eggs, or something. But Ray remains a legend.
Why do we have to wait for Intermezzo? Our local is doing a midnight release party and for the sleepyheads (me, it's me), a midday pickup and silent reading at the local pub. I've not made a ton of friends since moving to the middle of nowhere (it's 20 miles from Edinburgh) and this is definitely where I find my people, right?
My theory is that Crunchies aren’t in the Heroes tub as they would totally outflank all the other chocs in terms of popularity and cause family feuds! 😆
I started listening to The Dutch House this morning, thank you for the recommendation in your book club newsletter. I am already half way through and thoroughly enjoying it :)
Agree re Crunchies. I won't buy them any more because of palm oil but crunchie icecreams are something of a delicacy and correct ratio of chocolate to honeycomb...
I've recently gone to a bookshop with my 2 year old (technically 2 years and 4 months). We bought two big flat picture books and she got to carry them in the carrier bag. She carried them through half of London, refused to let go at any point, in the evening, we read one of the books and then she put it BACK in the carrier bag. Throughout next day she kept taking them out and putting them back in the bag. I think it took 3 days before I could stash that carrier bag away. So you know, maybe your carrier book got a similar mileage now.
Ah that's so cute, Kinga! I hope so! I definitely don't begrudge a child carrying the bag, I just wasn't sure this kid needed two separate bags, one for each book, but yes, let's imagine that both bags have been treasured the same way your little one enjoyed hers. She sounds so sweet by the way.

Does Business Mum’s mum have her own very official nickname?
I think she was referred to as Retirement Gran in one edition
No one accused you of over-cruising. You didn't even answer my question about the mini books - do you have a set of them and where do you keep them?

I can’t add a photo but mine are on the bookcase, in pride of place.
Katie is totally right - children's books are definitely acceptable to browse and buy at any age.

>A little girl is offered ‘one or the other’ and replies ‘we should just take both.’
Always the right answer when it comes to books.
Naturally!!
Love hearing about all the different characters who come Into your shop! Those tiny books are very cute :)

Glad to know Ray is still passing on his bushcraft knowledge but my most important question is.. was he wearing khaki?

This sounds VERY promising. Keep us updated.
As a Crossover member I display my little books in a glass on a shelf that has books on it. They look great!
The man reading Greengage Summer ❤️❤️❤️
I use to do this when I was a teen - just pick a book in Folio Poche editions just by reading the title. Fun times
Both Ann Patchett books, recommend. But without the interruptions. 🙂
We’re definitely going to look in on our next visit to St Anne’s.

They used to be in the Heroes and were removed. Justice for Crunchies!
Also wanted to say I can’t wait for bonus bits from the bookshop! 🤩🛳️
love this.
Oooh! Conspiracy theory!
Personally, I love a Crunchie.
I knew someone would, they're still in every corner shop in the country even though I've never seen anyone buy one.
Most of us do it under the cover of darkness.
I have a coffee shop, and between customers, I listen to books with just one ear bud in one side. It’s really easy to pause when someone walks in.
Also, the bag thing. I can totally relate 😛

huzzah, I'm going to finish it this week and be bereft!

Yes I actually think Crunchie is really more of an ingredient than an end product.
