Welcome to Receipt from the Bookshop
Me: Hello.
You: Where am I?
Me: This is the About page for my newsletter, Receipt from the Bookshop, which I’m hoping you’ll soon become a subscriber to.
You: Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Me: *puts down the bottle of Champagne* Sure, ok, yes.
You: So, what do you do here?
Me: Well, every week I send out my free post, the actual Receipt from the Bookshop, live from my award-winning independent bookshop by the sea. I open the draft when I open the shop, detail the day’s customers and transactions, and then send it out to readers before I go home.
You: That sounds potentially very boring.
Me: You’d be surprised (how boring it can be).
You: What else? I can see you also have some paid content.
Me: Paid subscribers get access to the full archive, plus an additional post from me every week. This might be a book review, an essay on writing, or some bonus bits from the bookshop. Paid subscribers can also access my monthly book club discussions. You can interview me for that promotion here.
You: Let me guess, it costs less than a cup of coffee to upgrade?
Me: Depends where you get your coffee, but yeah, I’m it’s pretty cheap… and, like coffee, it’s also stimulating! And addictive! And bitter delicious!!
You: You would say that. Anyway, who are you? I don’t give my email, or £3.50 a month to strangers, you know.
Me: I’m Katie, a writer, bookseller and bookshop-owner based in Lancashire, UK. Published-books-wise, I write primarily for children – my young fiction book is here, my teen novel is here, and my next publication is my debut picture book. But I’m dabbling in writing for adults both off-Stack and here, on-Stack, because I am assuming that you are, in fact, an adult.
You: Guilty.
Me: Anything else you need to know before you hit that button?
You: Can I read some of your non-Receipt posts for free?
Me: Sure. Here’s a book review, a post about being a bookseller, a post about where I write, a post about Bluey, a story about my dog, and an essay about being a writer.
You: Ok, thanks. Can you leave me in peace now?
Me: *pops Champagne* Absolutely.
Book purchase links in all my letters go to the bookshop.org account for my business, Storytellers, Inc., so if you buy a book I’ve recommended you’re supporting my bricks-and-mortar independent bookshop, and I really appreciate it. Thank you.
